This water main replacement project will replace approximately 3,000 feet of old, undersized water main installed in the 1800s that is original to the water system. The project will take place on North Street from Elm Street to the Railroad Crossing.
The existing pipe has a diameter of 8 inches and will be replaced by 12 inch diameter pipe, which will improve hydrology within the system and increase available water flow for things like fire protection.
North Street will remain open without detours throughout the project, which is projected to take place from June 8th to the middle of October, 2020.
$1.5 million will be invested in the project through Maine Water's Water Infrastructure Charge (WISC) program. Overall, Maine Water invests nearly $7 million in infrastructure investment projects each year.
The project was awarded to R.J. Grondin & Sons, located in Gorham, Maine.
