Greg Leighton Retiring as Controller of Maine Water Company After a Distinguished 35 Year Career

Succeeded by Justin Edelstein Who Has Been Transitioning into His New Role

SACO, Maine, April 18, 2023 – Maine Water Company today announced that Greg Leighton is retiring on April 20, 2023, after a distinguished 35 year career with Maine Water. Leighton shared his retirement plans in early 2022, which allowed Maine Water to hire Justin Edelstein as his successor in October 2022 and allow for a seamless transition in responsibilities.

“Greg is a true Water Professional who always looked for ways to serve our front line teams. He leaves a strong legacy at Maine Water,” stated Maine Water President Mark Vannoy. “Greg is well respected by both his colleagues at the company, regulators, and fellow water utilities. His commitment to serve and extraordinary leadership and financial skills have benefited customers and the utility. He modeled the core values of service, transparency and trust that Maine Water has built its reputation on. We thank him for his service to Maine Water.”

Leighton has also been active in the water utility industry in Maine assisting multiple other water districts including Port Clyde, Waldoboro, Tenants Harbor, Vinalhaven, Fryeburg Water as well as Auburn, Augusta and Sanford Water Districts while still watching over Maine Water companies 10 regulated divisions. He served on the Board of Directors for the New England Water Works Association for 9 years and sat on multiple committees. He lives in Cumberland, Maine and plans to travel, golf, and golf some more.

Since October 2022, Edelstein, has been working closely with Leighton to learn the intricacies of being a controller for water utility regulated by the Maine Public Utilities Commission. Edelstein was a vice president at Camden National Bank in Camden, ME. He is a certified public accountant and has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Southern Maine.
