This is an important update from the Berwick Water Department. We are experiencing elevated Manganese levels in the water system caused by the dry summer weather, and you may be experiencing discolored water. The manganese level in our latest sample taken is .31 mg/L. A health advisory is required when levels reach .30 mg/L. Effective immediately infants up to 6 months and women who are or may be pregnant should not consume the water. Healthy adults can continue to drink the water, brush teeth, bathe, cook, use ice and wash dishes with water with elevated manganese. Flushing water in the system and water treatment will continue and we will keep you informed of progress to reduce levels. Bottled water will be available beginning Friday at 3:00pm at the Berwick Fire station and throughout the weekend. On Monday it will still be available at the fire station and the Town Hall as well. Please call Maine Water at (800) 287-1643 if you have any questions.
