Millinocket Drinking Water Treatment Facility

MILLINOCKET, Maine —  Maine Water welcomes customers to learn about the water treatment process from our water professionals during an open house at the drinking water treatment facility in Millinocket on April 29.

“Our team of water professionals are eager to meet their customers and show them the care and skill that goes into providing high-quality drinking water,” said Mark Vannoy, Maine Water President. “Most people are pretty fascinated to learn how involved the treatment process is. A lot more work goes into it than most people realize.”

The facility, located at 250 Poplar St. treats water from Ferguson Pond to deliver to customers. The pond is part of an extensive watershed area associated with the West Branch of the Penobscot River.

In addition to treating drinking water, Maine Water continually tests the water at the source and throughout the delivery system on more than 120 water quality parameters. The water treatment process includes direct filtration to remove organics and other impurities. Certified water operators ensure the facility, and the water coming out of it, meets drinking water regulations. The facility can produce about 1.5 million gallons of fresh water each day.
